Must strongly specify no cheese – they might leave it off your burrito, but put it on your side of beans/rice. Or forget and put it in your burrito anyway.

Roy’s Bakery in Houghton has a couple sandwiches with hummus that can be ordered without cheese/chicken. Must check the breads, only one option (the rye) last time was vegan. Breads are on a shelf when you walk in, with ingredient labels, so customer can check them themselves without having to ask. They also have a vegetarian pasty – but sorry I’m not sure about it. Possible that the crust could have butter, best to ask.

Both Sheldon Grille in Houghton and Ramada in Hancock have a veggie burger which is vegan (I believe it’s the same exact pre-packaged one), but ask about toppings – e.g. at Ramada the marinara they top it with has butter in it.

Habanero’s in Hancock had some basic Mexican vegan options, however they closed -but- a new Mexican restaurant, “La Cantina” is set to open soon in the same location. Hopefully they have similar offerings. Not sure if same owners or management. Habanero’s food wasn’t the best, but they had a build-your-own-taco buffet that was convenient for vegans, and also amazing guacamole, made fresh tableside in a giant mortar and pestle, that could be a meal in itself.

Hope that was helpful. Thanks for running this page, there were a few options I hadn’t heard of. 🙂

I have a friend that has a daughter getting married next year in Marquette. The couple is vegan and would like the reception to be strictly vegan/vegetarian. Does anyone know of a caterer that is experienced in that venue?

    • Hi Carol! I would suggest you emailing us at info@northernvegans.com so we can further answer your question. Sweet Water is vegan-friendly but I am sure there are others too. I know of a vegan couple that had the Landmark Inn provide a vegan reception for them years ago. Both places are in Marquette. Temaki & Tea might be able to do this for you (we had a nice vegan dinner there recently) as well as BabyCakes. Also, please email us so we can connect you to other people who can answer this question. Thank you!
